A TRIAL is expected to begin today after a man denied sexually assaulting and attempting to rape an 11-year-old girl in Worcester.

Joshua Beardmore denies attempted rape of a girl under 13 and sexual assault against the same victim. The trial was adjourned yesterday at Worcester Crown Court.

The 25-year-old defendant, of Glenthorne Avenue, Worcester, is said by the prosecution to have committed the offences in the city on May 25 this year.

The trial, which is expected to last around four days, was due to begin yesterday but has yet to get underway. A jury has not yet been sworn.

The case will be prosecuted by Anna Midgley. Jason Aris appears for the defendant.

The prosecution case will involve a video interview, about 35 minutes long.

The complainant in the case is also expected to give live evidence.

Judge Jim Tindal agreed to adjourn the case until today when it is hoped the jury can be sworn and Miss Midgley can open the prosecution case.
