A GUN was found after a man was shot by armed officers in Worcestershire, a police watchdog has said.

The non-police-issue weapon was recovered from the scene, according to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

The IOPC said the 53-year-old man was shot at by two officers responding to reports of a suspect armed with a handgun at several locations.

West Mercia Police said the man underwent surgery for non-life-threatening injuries after the shooting in The Tryst, Bromsgrove, at about 1.45am on Sunday, November 4.

The IOPC said in a statement: "We have gathered police body-worn video which will be reviewed, and witness accounts have been provided by the officers involved.

"Investigators have also overseen police forensic examinations which have included recovery of a non-police-issue weapon from the scene."

West Mercia Assistant Chief Constable, Martin Evans said: "The incident resulted in shots being fired by two trained officers.

"Officers at the scene immediately gave the man emergency first aid for gunshot wounds.

"He has since received surgery and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

"As is standard procedure in these incidents, the matter has been referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct, who will carry out an independent investigation."
