A HOTEL barman has pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified and giving false information to police after he told officers that he was his brother.
Nathaniel Lewars, aged 23 and from Westwood Road, Sutton Coldfield, was caught behind the wheel in Worcester on April 13 this year despite being banned from driving until May.
Worcester Magistrates Court heard on Thursday that Lewars was out with two friends and had been to a club, and that the friend who was supposed to be the designated driver for the night got drunk.
As a result, Lewars decided to drive the trio back to Birmingham in a Volkswagen Polo belonging to a female friend, but they were stopped by police at 4am while parked in Foregate Street after visiting McDonald’s.
When the officers asked Lewars’ his name, he gave them his brother’s.
Bernard Porter, defending, said: “On April 19, 2018 Mr Lewars travelled from Birmingham to Worcester Police Station to confess his real details and the reason why he lied to police.”
Mr Porter asked the magistrates to give credit for Lewars’s early guilty plea.
The magistrates fined Lewars’s a total of £335 and imposed six penalty points on his licence.
