A BUSY city road will be closed in both directions tomorrow night.

The A4440 between Whittington and Norton roundabouts, in Worcester, is set to shut from 9pm tomorrow until 6am on Thursday morning.

Worcestershire County Council said workers will install safety barriers and paint white lines in the road.

The work is part of a wider project to dual the length of the Southern Link Road, from the M5 to the Powick roundabout.

The section between Whittington and Norton roundabouts is expected to be complete in early spring.

Workers have already dualled the stretch between the Ketch and Norton roundabouts.

County councillor Ken Pollock, cabinet member for infrastructure, previously said: "Once complete it will reduce congestion times both in the city centre and wider road networks, improve employment opportunities, reduce journey times and journey time reliability."
