PUPILS from a Worcester school have been handed a cheque for £1,230 towards a new minibus.

The youngsters at Fort Royal Community Primary welcomed members of the Independent Fundraisers and Iguana group to school and Ben Murphy handed over the money, raised when he and a group of colleagues ran the Tough Mudder.

The group told the children about the extreme event, which involved the team running ten miles and scaling 20 obstacles including, icy water, mudslides and monkey bars.

The money raised will "buy" a seat on the new minibus that Fort Royal, in Wyld's Lane, is raising money for in its partnership challenge to replace its ten year old one.

Margaret Jones, on behalf of the school, said: " We were delighted to accept the cheque from Ben. So far we have secured £9,000 towards our target of £16,000.

"I am optimistic that we could action delivery in the New Year from the Lords Taverners if we could encourage more groups to come forward and raise some  money.

"Each seat on the new bus will have a small plaque put on with the name of the benefactor as a lasting reminder of their support.

The wheelchair-accessible 16-seat  Ford Mini buses - which cost £61,000 - are provided by The Lords Taverners but part payment is required from the school.

Mrs Jones added that minibuses are a vital element to the children's education and learning experiences, offering new opportunities that they can take part in and practical activities that are relevant, exciting and fun.
