A VOLUNTARY group for girls will be celebrating 95 years of adventures and wants its previous members to join in on the fun.

A party will be held to celebrate the many decades of fun enjoyed by the Brownies, which is part of the Girlguiding organisation.

The 6th Worcester Brownies group was registered on December 15 in 1922 - and has been going strong ever since.

The original 6th Worcester Brownies first met in a small tin structure in the grounds of St Barnabas church but today the girls meet in the community rooms of the King George community centre in Brickfields.

The unit has always been run at full capacity of 24 brownies and occasionally 30 when demand is high.

Current leader Tracey Fraser-Clark, aged 46, said today's Brownies enjoyed exciting adventures with their friends.

Mrs Fraser-Clark said: “The Brownie journey is an exciting adventure that the girls take with their friends and leaders as they discover a host of activities, challenges and the wonders of the world around them.

“At 6th Worcester we explore topics which the girls freely choose, play games, experience fun and adventure and learn new skills which benefit the girls and support their future success.

“Our unit is particularly adventurous with the girls choosing to challenge themselves on a regular basis.

"We regularly go climbing, abseiling, kayaking, raft building, swimming and ice skating, theatre trips and weekends away which includes camping and indoor holidays that happen twice a year.

“We have a team of dedicated leaders who proudly volunteer their time to ensue as many girls as possible can access our Brownie unit, make wonderful friends, serve their community and above all have lots of fun.”

Pamela Instan, aged 67, was a Brownies guider for 25 years.

Mrs Instan said: “I have enjoyed helping the girls progress and watch them become confident in what they achieve over the years as a member of Girlguiding.”

The group aims to teach girls, aged between seven and 10 years, about their community as well as introducing them to new opportunities.

The party will take place at St Barnabas church, in Church Road, on Wednesday, December 5 at 6.30pm, followed by refreshments and birthday cake.

The invitation is open to anyone who has been a brownie at any time over the last 95 years.
