WORCESTER pub-goers have a final chance to give their opinion of what the best pub in the city is.

Our contest has captured readers attention with nominations of their favourite establishment flooding into us.

The winning pub landlord or manager of the competition will receive a special trophy and be invited to the Houses of Parliament by Worcester's MP Robin Walker.

One of the pubs that has been getting your votes is the Imperial Tavern.

There has been a pub – with names including the Yorkshire Arms and the Brewers Arms - on the site for about 300 years, but the current Victorian building was, for many years, called the Imperial Hotel.

Black Country Ales bought the closed pub, then called Woo Bar, in 2015. After reopening it the Imperial has gone on to thrive ever since.

The interior of the Imperial is very traditional and the walls are adorned with a number of pictures of old Worcester, which are a talking point with customers.

Licensee of the St Nicholas Street pub, Fred Jones, said there was a good atmosphere at the pub, which was known for it real ales and ciders.

"We have very loyal customers, so it's great to be getting support in the competition," he said.

"We are known to be a clean, friendly, and a very traditional pub."

Mr Jones said the pub also holds regular quizzes and although doesn't serve pub food, their regulars enjoyed the bar snacks available from behind the bar.

"We have sport on, and have live music," he said.

"Our Live at Five music events are always busy, and have just gone stratospheric. We get booked up with performers and acts wanting to play here."

Mr Jones added it would be great if the pub - a former Campaign for Real Ale award winner - was to win the Worcester News prize.

Voting for the Pub of the Year award closes tomorrow so use the slip on this page to support your favourite pub and tell us why it deserves to win.

Anyone can vote, whether a member of staff or a loyal customer, but we only accept slips cut out from the newspaper as votes - to ensure a fair competition.

Entries need to arrive at the Worcester News' Hylton Road office no later than tomorrow’s deadline, November 30.

We have been profiling some of the pubs people have been nominating as their favourite watering hole these past few weeks.

The competition winner will be announced in the paper and on the Worcester News' website on Tuesday, December 4.

Worcester News editor Michael Purton said: “There are some brilliant pubs in the area and we want to highlight them.

“Time is running out, so get your nominations in before the deadline runs out.”
