THE city council will serve an eviction notice on a homeless camp, described as 'a mini-Glastonbury', later today.

Locals previously claimed the makeshift settlement, behind Primo Bar and Dining, in Sidbury, Worcester, was an eyesore and a hub for drug dealing and anti-social behaviour.

However, those staying at the site denied these allegations and insisted that they were simply trying to survive.

A Worcester City Council spokesman said: "We will be serving a notice to leave on them today.

"This requires them to leave the land immediately. If they are still there 48 hours after the notice is served we can consider further action, which may involve seeking a court order.

"We are working closely with rough sleeper support services and the police and will be giving high priority to the welfare of the rough sleepers in the actions we take."

One of the people staying at the camp, Klair Bradshaw, aged 48, said the council had not found her a home for various reasons.

She said: "If we get kicked out from here we will be back in the doorways.  "I've been on the streets a year this December, me, my partner and my dog.

"Being on the streets is not healthy. It's shameful the way we have been treated. We are not doing anything wrong."

One Worcester News reader, Kylie Kelly, has set up a Just Giving fundraising page to help house or support the people living at the camp.

The page was set up yesterday and has already raised almost £200.
