The 2018 Worcester Victorian Christmas Fayre is up and running and visitors from across the country are flooding in.

Crowds are taking in the festive atmosphere with food, drink and music along with art and crafts.

Today, crowds in Cathedral Square were entertained with carol singing by pupils from Fort Royal School in Worcester.

There were also awards handed out to the best stall owners, with the Garlands Catering Stall in Friar Street winning the best dressed stall award in the food and drink section.

Worcester Vigornia Rotary Club got in the mood for Christmas with their stall selling mince pies.

Last night, Mayor of Worcester Jabba Riaz officially opened the fayre with a procession of officials and choristers down High Street.

Over 100,000 people are expected to visit the city, contributing over £7million to the local economy.

Mr Riaz said “The Victorian Fayre is one of the highlights on Worcester’s annual calendar, attracting visitors from across the UK and an eclectic mix of traders who offer unique and enticing produce.

"“Many of the items sold on the stalls have been made locally; you’re bound to pick up some great Christmas gifts and there’s lots of fun street entertainment too, so come on down.”

The Fayre is in its 26th year and is expected to be one of the biggest to date.

To help with the number of visitors, Worcestershire County Council has introduced a park and ride system to help people get to the fayre on time.

The Park & Ride will operate from County Hall to Crowngate Bus Station on Saturday 1st December from 8.35am to 8.10 pm (last bus back to County Hall from Crowngate Bus Station) and on Sunday 2nd December 2018 from 9.45am to 5.10pm (last bus back to County Hall from Crowngate Bus Station).

cabinet member for Highways said: "We are very happy to support this, now renowned, Christmas Fayre and help boost the local businesses and the city economy at one of the busiest times of the year. The Victorian Christmas Fayre brings a much needed boost to the local economy and for many, marks the beginning of the festive season.
