A STUDENT has decorated candles to sell for a project to raise money for disadvantaged children.

Robert Foskett, aged 12, from the King's School, in Worcester, was inspired to start the project after he had planned to go on a pilgrimage to Palestine in 2016.

Unfortunately however, he did not manage to go on the journey.

Instead, he gave the Bishop of Worcester money and gifts to give out to the children in need in Palestine.

The Bishop of Worcester selected the School of Joy, in Bethlehem, during the pilgrimage as the place to give the donations to.

The School of Joy supports 60 children who are disabled, and otherwise would not receive any education.

The charity, Friends of the Holy Land, is the main provider, as the school continues to run through outside donations.

Robert has been inspired to further support the school and provide funds to help it develop.

As a result, he has created his own company 'Kerzen Mit Herzen', which means candles with hearts in German.

Robert now designs his own candles and sells them on to support a project called 'Robert's Garden', which aims to astro turf the schools garden, that otherwise is covered with rough sand.

The area will cost £2500 to astro turf. Since last summer, he has been raising money and so far he has raised £1000 through selling his decorated candles.

Robert said about the project: "I feel very happy. I am privileged to be living in this country. It is a responsibility to do something to help children who are less privileged than myself."

His mother, Elaine Foskett said: "We are so proud of Robert and what he is doing. He has worked very hard. He has helped many children that are disadvantaged.

"He has done incredibly well. This started off as giving a vicar a gift and has snowballed into helping hundreds of children."

St George's Catholic Church held a coffee morning and also raised £1000 which has been donated to the project.

Robert is hoping to raise the remaining £500 over Christmas.

He attended the Victorian Christmas Market over the weekend and managed a stall selling his candles.
