PERFORMERS from a popular city dance school put on a spectacular show raising cash for charity.

Members of Happy Steps Dance Studio and Steps Academy organised a fundraiser for the benefit of Help for Heroes, as part of the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

Managing director Debbie Harding decided that this year the charity should benefit from the charitable efforts, having supported Acorns for a number of years.

The dance school’s production, 100 years on was the production at the Swan Theatre, which captured varying tones of the war with performances such as Fallen Soldier, Dambusters, to light hearted entertainment from Military Wives.

Enthusiastic performers, dressed in eye catching costumes, took to the stage while dance groups who attend street jazz, musical theatre, festival, classical, tap and ballet, also performed.

Debbie Harding said: "I must thank the students, teachers and parents for all their hard work and support, and one of the delights of the evening occurred when Dancing Dads were invited on stage to participate in the finale - I think some of them really quite enjoyed themselves.

“It’s been a very busy year for us, having moved premises to Ombersley Road, and placing the students through LAMDA exams gaining distinctions and medals at festival appearances. We are now full steam ahead in practicing for our Christmas show, and the annual performance will take place in March 2019.

Help for Heroes received a cheque for an amazing £850.

Neil Roberts, the city’s volunteer co-ordinator for the charity, said: “It was very much appreciated to receive a call out of the blue to be requested to collect this wonderful amount of money from Happy Steps Studio. The funds are appreciated. This year H4H has once again trained, selected and developed athletes for the Invictus Games. The charity is also a beneficiary of the There But Not There campaign, commemorating the 100 year anniversary. I am very proud of the efforts by Debbie and her entourage of young entertainers, and on behalf of the charity, I thank them enormously, it was a great effort.”

Mr Roberts, and wife Helen, were also recently presented with the award Over and Beyond from the Help for Heroes charity.

Mr Roberts added it was: "Very humbling."
