The RGS Worcester Debating team has won a national debating competition.

Facing sixty teams from across the country, the RGS Worcester pair of Amber Warner-Warr and Felix Haynes were crowned champions at the Warwick University Schools competition.

Six teams from the RGS Worcester Debating Society, sponsored by SME Solicitors, travelled to Warwick to face opposition from schools from as far afield as London, Liverpool, Wales and Newcastle.

The RGS pair won all of their debates on the way to the final.

The final was a complex motion, ‘Should we support the idea of geo-engineering to combat issues of climate change?’.

Four teams fought it out to be champions, but Amber and Felix were unanimously declared winners.

Amber was also named best speaker among 120 debaters, with Felix in second place, just half a point behind her.

Amber, who joined RGS Worcester in Year Seven from Perdiswell Primary School, and Felix who came from Franche Community Primary School, have become expert debaters during their time at RGS.

The latest debate took place on Saturday, November 24.
