Friends and neighbours have rallied around a family whose house was devastated by a fire and offered them help to rebuild their lives.

Fire crews were called to a home in Hunters Way in Droitwich at 7:07am on Wednesday morning after a fire broke out on the top floor of the house.

A mother, her five children and two dogs were all accounted for safely, according to Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service. However, one person was taken to hospital from the scene.

Firefighters in three fire engines and two other service vehicles were sent to tackle the blaze.

Leanne Rowley has set up a fundraising page, to help the family in the run up to Christmas.

She said: “I’m just hoping that they can still try and enjoy Christmas despite the devastating fact that they have lost everything.”

Posting on the Spotted: Droitwich Facebook page, she said: “The family have probably lost everything seeing the house.

"There were 5 children in the house - luckily everyone got out.

“My question is, would people be willing to donate clothes, toys etc. and if so, is there anywhere that we could use as a drop off point?

She added: “I don’t know these people personally, but cant stop thinking about them and hope they don’t mind me doing this.”

Since her post, dozens of kind-hearted neighbours have promised to donate clothes and other essentials to the family as well as offers of support from strangers.

Other items offered by generous strangers include TVs, bedding, a Christmas tree and food for the dogs.

The Crowdfunder page has been set up with the aim of raising £500 to help the family celebrate Christmas.

Hereford and Worcester fire and rescue service could not comment on what caused the fire, saying that the investigation into the fire was still ongoing.

Yesterday, a fire officer was still working to ensure the house was safe.

The Worcester News approached one of the people who lives at the house, but they declined to comment.

Anyone wishing to donate items to the family can do so at the Wands Children’s Centre at Westlands First School in Farmer’s Way, Droitwich, which is acting as a drop-off point for donations.
