WORCESTER City footballers spread some Christmas cheer with a special visit to Worcestershire Royal Hospital’s children’s ward.

Generous staff and players from the club dropped in with gifts and presents for the children in the run up to Christmas.

City players Sam Gilder, Jamie Smith, Jordan Stoddart and Kyoto Evans went along with director Tom Swan, the club’s chairman Steve Goode and supporter Mark Watton.

Mr Goode said: “I’ve done a lot in my life, a lot of fundraising but I think out of everything I have done it was the most enjoyable visit I have ever taken part in.

“The directors each gave money to go towards gifts. Tim from Toys of Worcester, who is a big fan of Worcester and also a sponsor, also donated toys out of his own pocket. Four players come up, we had boys and girls toys.

“The nurses went round with the players and handed the toys out.

“It was brilliant - it is something we have done before, it is something that while I’m chairman we will do every year.

“It was great to see the smiles on the kids faces, no one wants to be in hospital over Christmas. It really made my day and the players loved it, had a laugh. A few people wanted autographs and pictures, and we’ve arranged to get them tickets when they are feeling better to see a game.”

City captain Jordan Stoddart added: “We are really pleased to be able to represent the club today to give out these presents to the children on the ward, we hope they are soon better and can enjoy their gifts.”

Meanwhile, Worcester Raiders Football Club players, supporters and staff also dug deep and bought extra presents for the children. On Christmas Eve, the club’s players made a visit and delivered the presents to the Riverbank ward at the hospital.

The club tweeted: “Worcester Raiders FC visiting the ward to give the children Christmas presents to try and make there time just a little easier over this festive time.

“All involved with the club have dug deep to give some truly amazing presents.”
