TODAY's picture from the archives of the Worcester News dates from the last decade of the 19th century, when Europe's first hydro-electric power station was being built on the river Teme at Lower Wick, on the edge of Worcester. In the picture, the Teme appeared to have been partially blocked off and drained top allow construction to take place. Note the steam-powered crane at the top left of the picture.
