WHOEVER said panto is only kids’ stuff?

This January, a show that’s certainly not suitable for the under 16s is coming to The Swan Theatre in Worcester, with “raunchy plots and blatant sexual innuendo” absolutely guaranteed.

Oh yes it is!

A spokesman said: “Now in their 15th year of touring The Market Theatre company are coming to the Swan Theatre this January with their latest Adult Panto – Hansel & Gretel Go Down in the Woods.

“In their own unique style they’ve taken a traditional fairy story and corrupted it beyond belief. This pantomime season, they’re taking on the well-known Brothers Grimm tale Hansel and Gretel. Hansel and Gretel are a young brother and sister kidnapped by a cannibalistic witch living in a forest, in a house constructed of cake, confectionery, candy, and many more treats than are imaginable.

“The two children eventually manage to escape with their lives by outwitting her. With a minimum of set, props and costume the fearless company of just three actors will take on the traditional and the not so traditional pantomime characters to keep you entertained and prolong the all too short seasonal spirit!”

The Adult Panto has been touring with their current pantomime since November 2018, with the run going right through to March 2019, stopping off at the Swan Theatre at the end of January.

Although it hasn’t been ratified by the Guinness Book of Records, the Market Theatre is confident to claim that they stage the world’s longest pantomime run.

Artistic director Kirk Foster said: “We’ve been saying it for eight years now; I don’t know of any other panto that continues past January.

“Get ready for an evening of slick, fast-moving, farcical fun and bawdy sexual innuendo (did we mention the innuendo?) for adults only.”

The date for the diary is Thursday, January 31, at the Swan Theatre, from 7.30pm. For tickets, call the box office on 01905 611427 or go to worcesterlive.co.uk
