THANKS to the generosity of the local community, a Droitwich opticians has helped to collect more than one tonne of food to help those in need.
A long-time supporter of the Droitwich Spa Foodbank, in the lead up to Christmas, Specsavers in St Andrews Square organised an advent-themed collection, with the store pledging to try and collect one trolley full of food every day from December 1-24.
Thanks to donations from local people, the opticians was able to donate 394kg of food.
Added to the 700kg collected in October and November, this represents more than 1,000kg of food which has been handed out to local families.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to have donated so much food to help those who might otherwise be unable to afford some of the items that we take for granted,” said store director, Emma Singh.
“The local community are always so supportive when we ask for their help and once again their generosity has enabled us to reach such a large amount. We’d like to say a very big thank you to everyone who made a donation.”
“Specsavers contribution and help with raising awareness about the foodbank are hugely appreciated,” said Doreen Lambden, donations secretary at Droitwich Spa Foodbank.
“Thank to their efforts we were able to provide food for 1,553 local people from April to December 2018 which is just fantastic.”
