A COUNCILLOR has called on developers behind a new estate in Droitwich to ensure the correct infrastructure is in place before more homes are occupied.

Redrow Homes is hoping to get permission to increase homes occupied on Yew Tree Hill from 188 to 209 prior to the implementation of highway improvement works to the Pulley Lane junction.

The estate is shared with Persimmon and in total will include up to 500 homes, a 200-bed care home and a mixed-use local centre.

This will be spread over land at and north of Pulley Lane, Newlands Road and Primsland Way, and north of Newland Lane.

Developers entered into a formal legal agreement with Wychavon District Council last February, stating no more than 90 properties could be occupied.

However, a varying order now means it can have 188 properties occupied before the road works are completed and it is believed that limit has now been reached.

Redrow’s latest application was received by Wychavon District Council on December 17.

Cllr Richard Morris, who represents Droitwich South East on Wychavon District Council, said: “This development is still an issue of significant concern for residents.

“Although this application is seeking a technical variation, it remains vitally important that infrastructure is put in place at the right time to support the occupation of built homes.”

Gary Williams, head of planning for WDC, said: “The application does not seek to vary the development proposed but does seek to increase how many houses can be occupied before essential off-site highway infrastructure is delivered. An assessment will be made prior to a decision being reached.”
