A WATERWAYS and well-being charity, The Canal and River Trust is launching a new campaign to recruit more volunteers to take on the role of lock keeper.
Areas that require a lock keeper include Diglis Basin in Worcester.
Britain’s canals are more popular than ever before, with more boats using them than at the height of the Industrial Revolution. Last year over 1,000 people volunteered. The task involves helping boaters on their journeys and providing information to visitors.
The campaign is called ‘Join the Daves’ as Dave is the most common name among the trust’s thousands of volunteers. 130 ‘Dave’s give up their time to manage water ways across Worcestershire.
