BUILDING work for a new school which has been set up due to the shortfall of school places in the area is on track for completion this year.

North Worcester Primary Academy, located on the old park and ride site in Perdiswell has been set up by The Rivers C of E Academy Trust. The 2500m sq footprint and 80 tonne steel frame are now complete. Work on floors started last week and the roof and exterior shell will be started by the end of the month. The project is running on schedule for opening in September 2019.

The ultra-modern school building will utilise the latest education-specific ideas and technology. Landscaped gardens will include a year-round astroturf sports field, as well as a large and well established forest school area.

Kate Brunt, CEO of the Rivers Trust commented:

“We are so excited to see building work coming along so quickly. The new school will be a wonderful place to teach, learn and have fun. Classrooms will be spacious and light, with specialist subject rooms for regular practical activities. The latest resources in every classroom will assist best teaching practice, including age-specific library areas and interconnected break out rooms for one-to-one support.”

Sian Williams, Executive Headteacher of NWPA and Headteacher of Northwick Manor Primary said: “NWPA will give local children the opportunity to learn in a fresh and modern environment, within a small and nurturing community. We are extremely proud that our learning will follow the ‘Rivers Curriculum Principles’, which have been developed through work with Professor Mick Waters, former Director of Curriculum at the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority. We will offer the very best start for our reception and pre-school pupils.”

In September there will be up to 26 children starting in pre-school and up to 60 starting in reception. Applications for these places can be made via northworcesterprimary.co.uk although applications officially close today (Tuesday 15 January). Anyone interested in finding out information about places after this date should call the Rivers Academy office on 01299 851178.

Families can apply for a place at NWPA alongside their applications for other state schools, and potentially chose between their two offers at a later date.
