TRIBUTES have been paid to a city born actor after his death at the age of 57 was announced.

It has been announced that Richard Swerrun, best known for playing Joseph in Bill Kenwright's long running hit production of Joseph and the Amazing Technocolor Dreamcoat, died on January 8 with his partner David Steadman by his side.

Mr Swerrun got the role of Joseph after being recommended by Barbara Windsor to Bill Kenwright, who then cast him as Joseph which he played throughout the UK.

Mr Swerrun also danced with Strictly's Arlene Phillips in Hot Gossip and in Oklahoma with friend Bonnie Langford.

After the sad news was announced Worcester News readers paid tribute on our social media pages, including relative Laura Oldbury who wrote: "Such sad news, RIP my lovely cousin, now reunited with his beloved dad, mum and brother."

Andrew Burford said: "Sad. I remember seeing him at Malvern Theatres in Joseph as a kid. Very good actor."

Naomi King said: "A wonderful friend, Joseph and all round guy. Sadly missed."

Tanith Messenger said: "A wonderful friend and amazing actor.

"I have set up a group in his memory, friends, family, anyone who saw him in a show or knew him welcome."

Bill Kenwright productions released details of the funeral arrangements informing it was taking place at Shrewsbury Crematorium, on to the Mytton & Mermaid Hotel in Shrewsbury, from 11.30am on Wednesday, January 30.
