SIR – I have visited Worcester Woods Country Park many times, as have family members. I found it ideal for taking disabled or elderly friends there.

It is always a pleasure to see so many young families, dog walkers, runners, disabled scooter users and cyclists using this place in a safe environment.

So, are we now setting up another special team to spend hours examining the problem before making a decision?

It seems that the lack of leadership being demonstrated over Brexit is spreading to local government too.

The whole place has been well-used for some time by us, the local people who have already paid for it. We also continue to pay for it by using the excellent café there.

The more that people use this place, the fitter they will become. Not just physically but mentally too.

The same council, which wants to charge people a second time to use the park, look after fitness and welfare in the community. I wonder if they’ve analysed the cost of installing machinery and bureaucracy to collect money. To deter people from using this place seems to be against the council’s own health policy.

The great little café there was given the concession based on the amount of people who visit. They are always polite, cheerful and friendly and give a great service.

To reduce their numbers puts the café’s future business in jeopardy.

Parkrun is a recent phenomenon, where up to 700 runners converge there every Saturday morning for a 5km run. Many of them crowd into the café to consume coffee and cakes. Will they continue to come? many of them say they will go elsewhere as a result of this charge.

Worcester News has done a great job in highlighting this looming impediment to users. Let’s continue to lobby against charging us for using the park when we’ve already paid for it?
