PLANS to open a huge gallery space and rebuild a link bridge at an historic city site look set to be approved.

The work would be the final stage of the redevelopment of the former Royal Porcelain Works site in Severn Street and would see a modern bridge built between the old Victorian painting shop and a building deemed surplus to requirements by neighbouring housing developer Berkeley Homes.

The Bransford Trust, which helps improve the lives of young people across the county through the creative arts, wants to open the buildings up for gallery space and arts and crafts workshops as well as space for offices and an apartment.

The link bridge - which would also form part of a large gallery - would connect the multi-storey brick painting house and the old trade showrooms.

The original bridge which connected the old painting shop and the buildings to the east of the site was demolished in 2007.

As part of the plan, the top floor of the former painting shop would also be turned into a three-bed apartment with a roof garden.

A lift would also be installed to allow for large art pieces and sculptures to be transported.

The plans were reacted to positively and welcomed by the city council's conservation advisory panel at a meeting in November last year.

Archaeological officers at the council said the whole area had been recorded and the new plans would not require further work.

The latest development would be the third and final part of a three-stage plan granted permission in 2016 which has already seen the Henry Sandon Hall open and a number of neighbouring apartments built by Berkeley Homes.
