WITH so many stories about how kind and thoughtful Tom Jones was, nobody will be surprised to hear that he may have walked towards the riverbank in Worcester in order to help someone in distress.

At the inquest into his death yesterday, the coroner heard that a cry for help was picked up by CCTV audio around the time that Tom disappeared and that the 18-year-old may have gone to the riverside to see if there was anyone there in need of help.

If that is what happened, and Tom then slipped and fell into the water and drowned, that act of selflessness – which tragically led to the teen's death – sums up the character of a young man who by all accounts was compassionate and would do anything to help someone else.

As shown by our special report today, Tom brought people across Worcestershire together in an unprecedented way.

The search for him and then the mass mourning after his body was found saw thousands of people unite.

That was because Tom was truly a special young man. He will never be forgotten.
