A PRIMARY school teacher won Newcomer of the Year Award at the Worcester News Education Awards 2018.

Abi Taylor, a teacher from Stanley Road Primary School in Worcester, was announced the winner of the award.

The category for Newcomer of the Year celebrates the achievements of those who are new into the profession.

The Worcester News is working in partnership with The University of Worcester for the third year running for the Worcestershire Education Awards.

The awards are a celebration of recognising the quality of teaching in the education fields across the county.

Nominations are now open for people to put forward nominees and state why they feel the individual should be recognised for an award.

There are 12 categories: Early Years Education Award; Community Involvement Award; Primary / Middle School of the Year; Head Teacher / Principal of the Year; Secondary School of the Year; Teacher / Lecturer of the Year; College, or Post-18 Education & Training Provider; Newcomer of the Year; Special Education Needs (SENCO) Award; Support Staff of the Year; Independent School of the Year; and Unsung Hero. The public, teachers, students and staff can nominate their individual or organisation. Those who make the finalists list will be invited to a black-tie gala evening with a reception, meal and inspirational speakers.

Before announcing the winners, the audience will have the opportunity to hear the finalists stories and background on why they had been nominated.

The deadline for nominations is April 18. Finalists are chosen by a panel of judges and winners are announced during an awards ceremony at the University Arena on June 20.
