A CELEBRITY who was crowned winner of the hit series Big Brother will be visiting the city as a special guest for a boxing event.

Alex Reid, an ex pro MMA fighter and winner of the Celebrity Big Brother series in 2010 will be attending The Gloves Are Off boxing event in Worcester.

There will be an opportunity for the audience to take photos with Alex and have a chat with the ex fighter and former husband of glamour model Katie Pryce.

Shaun Seery, aged 30, is the owner of The Gloves Are Off, which was created in September 2017.

He said: “Alex was a pioneer of British MMA and really put British MMA on the map. To have a high-profile celeb like Alex attend is great. The world boxing champion Robin Reid was at the last show. These are the people you watch on TV and inspire to be, but now they are attending the events you put on. It’s pretty cool really.”

The Gloves Are Off hosts bouts for boxing, K-1 kickboxing, MMA and bare-knuckle boxing around Worcestershire. They have worked closely with BKB on their events, which is the only licensed bare-knuckle organisation in the world.

There will be 14 fights throughout the event which include a combination of local amateur boxers who will experience their first ever bout. There will also be experienced and ex-professional boxers who will take part.

Mr Seery said: “Everyone makes the assumption we fight in car parks. We are anything but that. We have a top-level medical team as safety is the most important thing to us. There will be two ambulances fully equipped with £50,000 worth of kit on site if needed, also pre- and post-fight medical assistance for all fighters.

“I used to take part in kickboxing bouts, however, I have a family now so cannot train as much as I would like to. This is my way of staying within the local boxing community.”

The event will take place on March 2, at Perdiswell Leisure Centre, in Bilford Road.
