Labour’s shadow Brexit secretary Sir Keir Starmer visited Worcester to discuss the impact that leaving the EU could have on city businesses.
On a tour of Worcester Bosch's Warndon factory, the MP praised the company for its work on "the question of moving away from gas and how that might impact the heating of our homes and energy supply".
Speaking about Brexit in Worcestershire, Sir Keir said: “If you voted remain or leave you didn’t vote for businesses not to thrive and for local people not to have a job. We have a duty to make sure there aren’t adverse effects. In Worcestershire, more people voted leave than remain. Most people expect politicians to go around the country to understand the local economy and make decisions that won’t make it harder for local people, whatever their political persuasion.”
Afterwards, Lynn Denham, Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Worcester, added: “A lot of people from the European Union have been in touch with me who are concerned about their future.”
