WITHOUT sounding clichéd, it's no wonder the restaurant is called Cosy Club.

There are tables and chairs outside the Cathedral Square-based restaurant on the balcony which provide a snug space. It was a charming addition to see blankets for those who would like to snuggle up in the chilly weather.

From the outside, you cannot tell how big the restaurant is. From my previous visits, I have seen this place packed many times, which just shows it is a popular place amongst the punters.

On the inside, there is a bar area, a large dining area and a cosier part of the restaurant which provide sofas for those who would like to sit back and have a natter in the corner. The atmosphere is most definitely inviting.

With it being Veganuary I thought I should be adventurous for breakfast and see what the hype was all about. I was pleasantly surprised with what the restaurant has to offer for those who prefer a plant-based diet and was somewhat overwhelmed by the choice of vegan meals on offer.

Whilst browsing the menu, the Scrambled Tofu caught my eye. I was presuming this was a gimmick to encourage those to pick a plant-based option of scrambled eggs.

The waitress who served me, Hollie Beard, was very attentive and could not do enough for the table. From spending many years in the hospitality industry before starting my career in journalism, I could tell she is someone who genuinely enjoys her job and takes good care of the customers.

Considering I am not familiar with vegan dishes, I asked Hollie for her recommendation. Hollie suggested for me to try the Scrambled Tofu, which was my original idea.

Whilst ordering the duplicate of scrambled eggs, the vegan bacon caught my eye, so of course, I had to try it. I added this as an extra for £1.25.

For £7.95, the scrambled tofu included roasted tomatoes, peppers, kale, pesto, tomato tapenade and toasted seeds on toasted puccia.

The food came out swiftly, and it was a very colourful plate – which is always a good sign to a flavoursome meal.

I had tried tofu previously, but this was nothing like I had tasted before. The mashed soya beans had a soft texture resembling that of scrambled eggs.

Whilst devouring the vegan bacon, I forgot it did not contain any animal products – it was just like eating actual bacon. Although I do usually enjoy my bacon on the crispier side, it was a pleasant change to have.

My breakfast ticked all the boxes for me. The meal provided a variety of textures, flavour and most of all, it did not feel like I was eating plant-based food.

The range of dishes were inspiring, and it has encouraged me to incorporate more plant-based meals into my diet.

My visit to Cosy Club was a lovely way to start my day and I will look forward to visiting again.
