HEADTEACHER of the Year Award has been nominated to a man who believes a smile and warm welcome should always be provided at school.

Spencer Morris, aged 46, has been head teacher for 10 years at Red Hill C. of E. Primary School, in Midhurst Close, Worcester.

The school undergone a £2.9million expansion last year as a result of demand for primary school places. The children enrolled at the school has doubled to 420 students since the development.

Despite the building's expansion, Mr Morris has emphasised the importance of the school continuing to provide high-quality education and a sense of family feel.

Mr Morris said: "Everyone looks after one another at the school. We have that real family feel and it is something the parents have picked up on.

"By 2025 we would have reached our maximum capacity."

He added: "I love my job and always look forward to coming to work - no two days are the same.

"I welcome all the children at the gate every morning with a smile on my face.

"The school belongs to the children. It is important for them that we provide a warm and friendly atmosphere. This has been praised by the parents. All our staff go that extra mile, they are fantastic."

Mr Morris helps with the after-school club and also runs the tag rugby club at the school. He added: "It is important to spend as much time as I can with the students and in the classroom."

Following the most recent Ofsted inspection in December 2017, the school has been rated as 'continues to be good.'

Mr Morris said: "It was lovely to receive the recognition from Ofsted. Our job is to offer the children the best we can to help them develop and grow."

The deadline for nominations is April 18. Finalists are chosen by a panel of judges and winners are announced during an awards ceremony at the University Arena on June 20.
