WINTER has struck in Worcestershire but, in the end, it was little more than a light tap.
The much-awaited ‘Snowmageddon’ failed to materialise in most parts of the county and, instead, we were hit with not much more than a light dusting of snow and ice.
This has prompted much eye-rolling and jokes about how 'snowflake-like' we have all become about a bit of seasonal weather. It’s easy to mock but the yellow weather warning that was in place for Worcestershire was exactly that - a warning and not a promise.
Those issuing such warnings would no doubt prefer to be cautious and wrong than criticised for failing to let us all know that there may be severe weather on the way. Just ask Michael Fish on that one.
Although people hoping for a snow day were disappointed, the temperature certainly dropped. And, as a review gets underway into how rough sleeper, Joby Sparrey, came to die in a doorway on Christmas day, it’s worth remembering that being prepared for winter is a matter of life and death to some.
