COMMUTERS will soon be given the chance for a first look at plans for a £1 million revamp at Foregate Street Station.

Improvements will include a ticketed barrier system, an automated gate line, a new passenger information screen as well as updates to the current CCTV system.

Rail users have been invited to view the initial designs and have their say on the planned developments at the station.

West Midlands Railway will host the public consultation at Foregate Street on Friday, February 15.

As we previously reported, a cash injection of £1 million for the station was backed by Worcester’s MP Robin Walker.

West Midlands Railway has also reaffirmed their promise of an extra 413 carriages by 2021, with a capacity increase of 25 percent at peak times to help with overcrowding within carriages and the waiting times on the platforms across its network.

Brenda Lawrence, head of stations for WMP, said: “The £1m redevelopment planned for Worcester Foregate Street station will significantly improve the experience for passengers travelling to and from the station.

“We are keen to get the input of those who use the station every day, as they will be the main beneficiaries of our work.

She said West Midlands Railway management and members of the project team would be available at the station from 7am until 7pm on Friday, February 15 to share the plans and hear the views of the local community.

Those unable to attend will be able to have their say via an online form.

The station - opened in 1860 by the Great Western Railway – is the main station station serving Worcestershire.
