A FANCY dress shop is closing down after 20 years of trade in Worcester city centre.
The Ultimate Party Shop in Angel Place is to shut its doors for good on March 10.
Sue Clingan, company director, said the closure is “due to a consistent rise in business overheads and the change of consumer behaviour with the rise of online buying.”
“Our lease is up and we have a choice to re-sign the lease or move on,” she added.
Miss Clingan set up the business with her sisters after struggling to source a fancy dress outfit.
She told the Worcester News that a decline in visitors to the area has also been a contributing factor in the closure.
“Footfall in this area has definitely dropped so I think people are shopping in slightly different places” she said.
Miss Clingan added: “We are very sad to be leaving because we have been here for 20 years.”
The Ultimate Party Shop will still be trading at its flagship store in Cheltenham and is looking to expand the online aspect of the business, Miss Clingan said.
A statement from The Ultimate Party Shop said: “We have thoroughly enjoyed helping every one of you to create costumes to fit your themed occasions as well as balloon and party decorations ranging from classic birthday designs for your homes and restaurants to grand statements at weddings and superb corporate displays for themed party nights and special promotions.
“We hope you will remember us as fondly as we will remember you.
"Thank you for your custom. Keep on partying… its what memories are made of.”
