Little Oscar Saxelby-Lee was just like any other four-year old when he started school last September.
His smiling face, seen on our front page in his first school picture and below, positively radiates health and happiness.
He was embarking on an exciting journey and should have had the world at his feet.
Instead, just a few weeks later his parents have discovered he is suffering from an aggressive form of Leukaemia.
He has been forced to swap his school classroom for a hospital bed. Instead of helping teach him to read and write, his family have faced a crash course in chemotherapy, medication and blood transfusions.
They’ve now been given the stark news that Oscar needs a life-saving blood stem cell transplant - and quickly.
Imagine being told a loved one is in such a precarious position. It's chilling. And yet, of course, it could happen to any one of us.
So, if you are able, we urge you to visit Pitmaston Primary School on March 2 or 3 and register as a donor.
It might help Oscar now.
