WE are so fortunate here in Worcester to have a rugby team that truly cares about the community.
It’s easy to take the community work that sports teams do for granted, so it’s only right that Worcester Warriors receives praise for the way the players and staff at the rugby club give back to the city and county.
The latest example of this is the charity match day for Acorns Children’s Hospice, coming up on February 24, when Warriors will once again be raising money for the cause, having generated thousands of pounds in the past. Then there’s the work the club does to help homeless people, which includes the Big Sleep-out fundraiser taking on April 4 when a number of players will be joined by hundreds of volunteers to spend the night outside at Sixways.
As well as this, there’s the rugby sessions that Chris Pennell runs for youngsters with diabetes and numerous other acts of kindness, with too many to list here.
With such a community-minded club, I’m sure there will be no problem filling a 16,500-capacity Sixways should a new stand be built.
