SIR – I visited Foregate Street last Friday to see the West Midlands Railways display indicating planned changes there.
I was dismayed to see they intend to block off the existing main public entrance and instead only provide access to and from the north side of the station.
Surely the greater proportion of station users approach the site from the south (the city centre side) and also leave in that direction.
Forcing everyone to access or leave the station to the north will surely generate a potentially dangerous pinch point on the relatively narrow pavement underneath the rail bridge.
If WMR’s motive is to reduce numbers of fare dodgers, this should not be at the expense of forcing locals and visitors to step into a very busy road if and when they are in a hurry to reach or leave the station, or merely wishing to pass that point while walking north or south.
