THE American Golf shop at a golf club in Droitwich has closed down.

Gaudet Luce Golf & Leisure has confirmed that the shop shut its doors last Wednesday, after cancelling its lease and contract with the club.

And American Golf is blaming “space limitations” for its decision.

The club has had a successful partnership with the store in the past, including holding the American Golf Junior Championship’s regional rounds.

The development comes after Worcester’s store, in Lowesmoor Place, shut its doors last October when the company went into administration.

After the financial difficulties, American Golf - which describes itself as Europe’s largest golf retailer - was immediately bought out by investor Endless. At the time the new owners kept the Hadzor golf club store as part of 132 stores in UK and Ireland that remained open. Endless also said all queries about orders for the closed Worcester store should be directed to the Droitwich staff.

Elliot Fleming, head of property at American Golf, said: “We have enjoyed a great relationship with Gaudet Luce and would like to thank owner Alec Fernihough and his team for their efforts.

"Unfortunately space limitations meant we were unable to offer the range of golf equipment and services that our customers have come to expect, which has led to the decision to close the store.”

The Worcester News asked if the closure would lead to job losses but the firm did not respond.
