THIS weekend made me proud to be a part of Worcester. Seeing almost 5,000 people turn out to help a five-year-old boy with leukaemia, I was reminded just how compassionate the people of our city can be.

Many of them queued up in lashing rain to wait their turn to take the swab test, all in the hope that they might be the donor who can help save the life of Pitmaston Primary pupil Oscar Saxelby-Lee.

There was an amazing atmosphere at the school with everyone in high spirits despite the serious reason we were there, and the staff and volunteers who helped to stage the event did an absolutely brilliant job, making sure there was a steady flow as people queued and were then shown to a table to take the test.

As we await the results, of course we are all hoping this weekend will have uncovered a donor for Oscar, but there is also the huge positive that the event and coverage has raised awareness of the need for donors nationwide.

If you weren't able to attend this weekend, please visit www.dkms.org.uk to find out how you can take the swab test – it's not too late.
