THIS video shows the moment a taxi drove towards oncoming traffic in a one-way city road.

The vehicle, which had a Brookfleet sign on top, drove down New Road, Worcester, this morning.

Sales manager Mark Eriksen captured the moment on his dashcam and has now reported the incident to West Mercia Police.

Brookfleet, based in Rowley Regis, near Stourbridge, confirmed that the footage showed one of its drivers and said it had issued him with a warning.

Mr Eriksen, who was driving home at the time of the near-miss, said: “I came around the corner from Hylton Road and I could just see this car in the distance.

“I thought ‘those are headlights’. They were coming towards me and I started flashing at them.

“I was swearing. It took the driver a couple hundred yards to realise what they were doing. There was a passenger in the car too.”

Mr Eriksen’s video shows the taxi coming to a stop mere metres away from his vehicle and then turning around and driving back towards St John’s.

The 47-year-old, of Bromwich Road, Worcester, questioned how the driver managed to get up the one-way road.

He added: “I’ve never seen anything like it. My wife could have been in the car, or my kids. The driver is endangering lives.

“You can’t get up that road without doing something really stupid.

“It’s mindboggling that this person is allowed to drive around with people in their car.

“How have they got a licence to drive the public around? I think they should be stripped of their licence.”

The father-of-three, originally from Scotland, added that he was not worried about the taxi hitting his Ford Ranger pick-up truck.

He said: “It’s a big bit of metal and I’d rather he hit me than a Toyota Yaris.”

A spokesman for Brookfleet said Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council had been informed about the incident.

The driver had never driven around Worcester before and was sorry for his actions, according to the spokesman.

They added that he had just left the Premier Inn at the time of the near-miss and realised he was going the wrong way, prompting him to turn around.
