A NOTICE has been served on a “dangerous” house that neighbours fear could collapse, with city council officers threatening legal action if it is not cleaned up.

Last year the Worcester News reported on 11 Chestnut Walk, Arboretum, which residents complained had been left to fall into disrepair for over a decade.

They called it an "ugly eyesore”, a “disgrace”, and said they feared there was a genuine risk it could fall down.

A notice was served to the owner last summer, giving him 10 days to clear the rubbish dumped outside and warned further action would be taken.

But in the months since it appears nothing has happened with the property - which has been unoccupied for years - with rubbish continuing to be dumped outside.

Now exasperated city council officials have issued a Section 215 Notice under the town and country planning act earlier this week.

A city council spokesman said: “This notice requires the owner to clean up the property or to undertake remedial works if its condition is adversely affecting the amenity of the area.

"If the owner doesn’t comply then the authority can take court action – or in certain instances, undertake the necessary remedial work and recharge costs incurred to the property owner.”

The notice has been taped to the drainpipe outside the property, with the owner named as Alan Charles Spencer.

Attempts by the Worcester News to contact the owners have been unsuccessful.

Next door neighbour Brian Shaw-Rudd said: “The matter has effectively and comprehensively been dealt with by planning enforcement thus far.

"Robin Walker MP and councillor Joy Squires, worked closely with the local residents and were instrumental in the issuance of the notice. Credit is due to both.”
