AN "inseparable" city couple - who were together for 64 years - have died just a few weeks apart.

The family of Tom and Iris Foote have now organised a double funeral so the couple will stay together even during their final goodbyes.

Daughter, Emma Foote, said the pair lived a full life, adding: "I always thought they would go together."

The couple had been inseparable since meeting in 1955 and marrying after a whirlwind romance later that same year.

They lived together in their Park Avenue home until Mr Foote died on January 25, at the age of 96, while Mrs Foote died just three weeks later, on February 16, aged 95.

Their romance blossomed after they met in Nigeria when Mr Foote, who was born in Kent, was in the African country carrying out work for the forestry commission.

They married at Worcester Registry Office in the June of that same year and moved into their lifelong home after both returning to England.

The pair both also volunteered as Samaritans, taking calls to help people going through a tough time.

Miss Foote said: "They went on to live a long, full life.

"On moving back to England dad decided to go into teaching, even at one point teaching at a school in the East End, where they rented a second home.

"He also taught at Worcester Grammar School, and a school in Hanley Castle."

The couple also went out to Libya as Mr Foote was teaching at an English school there, and this was at the time of Gaddafi coming to power in 1969.

Miss Foote said: "They were there a year but had to flee to Malta, and then came back to England.

"My dad continued to teach at Four Dwellings School in Birmingham, before his retirement in 1987.

Mrs Foote was born in London Road in 1923, and was one of the first pupils to go to St Mary's Convent School. During the Second World War she was a dispatch rider for the Fire Service while Mr Foote was a navigator.

Miss Foote added: "People will know my mum - during her life she worked at Worcester Porcelain Factory and was in Worcester Operatic Society."

The couple are survived by their children Emma and Timothy.

The pair's joint funeral will be taking place at St George's Catholic Church, in Sansome Walk, from noon on Friday, March 22.

The family say everyone is invited to attend the funeral, and the wake at their Park Avenue house that follows.
