UP TO twelve people were injured and a woman was trapped inside her car following a pile-up involving five vehicles.

Ambulances, fire crews and police were called to the scene on the B4084 near Glassier window suppliers in Drakes Broughton following the crash around 8.30am.

A motorist involved in the collision, but who did not wish to be named, said the pile-up started after another car crashed into the back of him.

He believes it was initially caused by a driver attempting to turn right.

A woman was stuck inside her car and has now been taken to hospital, though her injuries are not believed to be serious.

A Hereford & Worcester Fire Control spokesman said: "We got a call at 8.43am and sent crews from Evesham and Worcester. We are dealing with an RTC involving five vehicles and up to 12 casualties were involved. We are currently working on an extraction from a vehicle."

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "At 8.31 we were called to the B4084 near Glassier windows. We have been made aware of a multi-vehicle collision. We sent two ambulances and a paramedic officer to the scene.

"We have treated two patients, one has been discharged and one woman who was treated for injuries which are not believed to be serious but she was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment."

A staff member of the Plough & Harrow pub, near to where the crash took place, said: "There was heavy traffic but the road wasn't closed."
