SITUATED just outside the city, Pub Spy decided this week to fill my boots at the Bull Inn in Droitwich Road, Fernhill Heath.

My friend had recommended this place – she had raved about how good the fish and chips are and how popular the food is amongst the punters.

It has been recognised Pub Spy regularly orders fish and chips and the Worcester News has received a bashing from its readers about the repeat food order. Although the temptation was there to order the renowned meal, I thought I should try something different.

The menu is rather basic at the Bull Inn, however, what it does offer is home-cooked meals to accommodate its customers. As it was a cold Friday afternoon, a hot meal of some sort took my fancy. I ordered a jacket potato with tuna mayonnaise, sweet corn and mozzarella.

I did not have to wait long until my food came out. It was served piping hot, as it should, with a decent amount of toppings and served with salad and coleslaw.

When I make my spuds at home, I leave mine in the oven slightly longer to cook than one usually would, just to get that crispy skin and fluffy consistency in the middle. Although, it was not crispy on the outside, it was still delicious.

The Bull Inn is most definitely not stingy when it comes to portion size. I am quite the beast when it comes to food. I can usually devour my food quite quickly with it barely touching the sides.

While I was enjoying my jacket potato, the table next to me was discussing how good the fish and chips are. I promise, Pub Spy has not got an addiction towards fish and chips, however the meal is thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated.

It was a struggle to finish the meal. In all fairness, the potato was probably the size of my head.

It is not often I leave food on my plate. I think this originated from when I was a youngster sat around the dinner table. It would constantly be drilled into me that I was not allowed to leave the table until everything was eaten.

I was eyeing up the ‘hot choc deluxe’ on the menu – this was a luxurious hot chocolate served with cream and marshmallows – sounds scrumptious. Under normal circumstances, I would have ordered this to finish off the meal. However, Pub Spy was on a tight schedule, so this treat had to be skipped.

I can understand why my friend likes it at the Bull Inn – with its easy-going atmosphere, friendly staff and old school tunes playing in the background, I can imagine this place gets filled on evenings and weekends.

The prices are reasonable and judging by the size of my meal at £5.75, you get more than what you pay for.

As you do when you visit a new place, you observe its cleanliness. One of my biggest pet peeves is laziness when it comes to wiping tables. Nothing is worse than when you are seated to a table and there are sticky marks which you catch your hand on.

I can safely say The Bull Inn ticked all the boxes for me, in terms of food, value for money, hygiene and customer service.

I will look forward to visiting again, perhaps I will even spoil myself and order fish and chips.
