YOUNG people in Worcester will have the opportunity to support the global appeal for five-year-old Oscar Saxelby-Lee at a donor recruitment event this Thursday.

The event will be held on from 10am to 6pm on March 14at the main reception and the Students Union at the St John’s Campus.

The Anthony Nolan Register, which uses its register to match potential stem cell donors to blood cancer patients in desperate need of a transplant, is asking as many people between the ages of 16 and 30 as possible to come forward and sign up.

Karen Archer, regional register development manager at Anthony Nolan, said: “We are delighted that the University of Worcester Student Union has been inspired to encourage people to sign up as donors.

"Every day, five people will start their search for a matching stranger who might save their life. Each person who signs up has the potential to help save someone in desperate need of a lifesaving stem cell transplant.

“We are also particularly calling on young men aged 16-30 to consider joining the Anthony Nolan register as young men provide 50 per cent of all stem cell donations but make up just 18 per cent of our register.”

Anyone between the ages of 16 and 30 is invited to attend and sign up.
