LOCALS are being invited to bring their WW1 memorabilia to a event in the city as part of a drive to record the items for posterity.

Organiser Sandra Taylor, of Hunt Avenue, Worcester, who runs Remember The Fallen, has shared her grandfather's story in a bid to encourage others to come forward.

Sandra Taylor, of Hunt Avenue, Worcester, who runs Remember The Fallen, said: "My grandfather fought in WW1 from 1915 and was wounded on the Somme in 1916, returning to the front after he recovered from his wounds.

"The purpose of the Lest We Forget Project is not only to photograph treasured family artefacts but also to gather stories of those who served, fought and even died in the bloodiest conflict the world has seen to date.

"No artefact is too small and no story is too short; land workers, munitionettes, nurses, conscientious objectors, in fact anyone who has a with WW1.

"This project allows their memories and stories to be kept alive for today's and future generations.”

Ms Taylor, aged 60, said she only discovered her grandfather's medals after he passed away in the 1960s.

She wants locals to bring any WW1 artefacts to St Helen's Church, in Fish Street, tomorrow between 10am and 2.30pm.

History buffs will photograph the items and record the stories behind them in order to create a free digital archive.

The project is led by the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation, in partnership with Oxford University and is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
