A father and daughter team from Droitwich joined forces to raise money for charity.

Mike Hull and his daughter Kate Nicol organised a walking football tournament after they were both affected by serious health problems.

Mr Hull, 65, was first diagnosed with melanoma back in 2013 and has faced a continuous battle since.

He said: “It first started when my wife Carol found a mole on my back that didn’t look right.

“We went to the doctor and eventually had to have it surgically removed.

“In 2016 I developed a cough which wouldn’t go away so we went back to the doctor and the scan showed spots on my left lung, part of which had to be removed to deal with it.

“After visiting the doctor again it was found that I had a tumour in my spine and five in my liver.

“In October 2018 I was told I only had a 15 per cent chance of surviving but miraculously after some new treatment I was found to only have one tumour.

“The doctor said I will probably never be cancer-free or if the tumours will come back, but most importantly it has given us time and that is all we could hope for.”

Miss Nicol, 32, chose her charity after her own health struggle, being diagnosed with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) after chronic headaches and poor eyesight.

She said: “I spent 2 months in and out of hospital and had over 10 lumbar punctures to relieve the pressure on my brain.

“I then got rushed to hospital as my eyesight was being impacted and I had developed tunnel vision and loss of vision in my right eye due to the pressure on my optic nerves.

“This condition came from nowhere and for no reason, massively impacting my health, emotional and mental well-being.”

The walking football tournament, known as the Droitwich Against Melanoma trophy, was attended by teams of five and the family believe over £5,000 has been raised, the money being split between Melanoma UK and The Brain and Spine Foundation.

Carol Hull, Mike's wife, said: "The day was a roaring success and there were over 400 people in attendance.

"We haven't had the official count yet but we are hoping it will be over £5,000.

"We would particularly like to thank Tim Kirkham, who let us use the facilities at Droitwich Sports Centre free of charge."
