A WOMAN damaged her boyfriend's bike after a row and scratched a highly offensive expletive on a car, a court heard.

Gemma Dewey, aged 27, was ordered to pay compensation to the victims after admitting criminal damage charges at Worcester Magistrates Court.

Adrian Jones, prosecuting, said the first offence happened last September when Dewey scratched the four-lettered word on a nearly brand-new Polo, with the damage costing nearly £700.

Mr Jones read out a victim statement from the car’s owner, Caitlin Hunt, who said she had suffered the embarrassment of having to drive round with the word scratched on her car.

Mr Jones said the other offences took place on Valentine’s Day at around 7pm, after Dewey had an argument with her boyfriend Matthew Standen.

Magistrates heard the relationship had broken down and, after the row, Dewey followed him to his father Dennis Standen’s address. While parked up, Dewey pushed Mr Standen’s bike to the floor causing scratches and other damage including to its fuel tank.

Then, Mr Jones said, when he was inside his dad’s property Dewey was “shouting and banging” before cracking a glass panel on the front door using his crash helmet.

Mr Jones said: “Matt rang police and she was arrested at the scene. She called it an accident.”

A probation report found Dewey had been ashamed of her behaviour, damaging the Polo to target someone else who she mistakenly thought was the owner.

On the motorbike damage, Dewey said she had wanted to simply move the motorbike to get her partner’s attention, so he would come back as she feared she was losing him.

Mark Lister defending said the offences were serious, but not of the worse sort to have come before the courts.

Mr Lister said Dewey, of Marsh Close, Malvern, said she had been asked to cause the damage to the Polo, and so she was “clearly someone who is vulnerable and easily led.”

On the Valentine’s Day offences, Mr Lister said: “She let her emotions get the better of her. The relationship with Matt will not be over - he texted her this morning saying good luck.”

Dewey was given a 12 month community order, including 25 rehabilitation days. She was fined £10 and ordered to pay compensation of £100 to Matthew Standen, £25 to Dennis Standen, and £300 to Caitlin Hunt. The total, £435, is to be deducted from Dewey’s benefits.

The case was heard last Thursday.
