WHILE most people will welcome the news that the derelict former Images nightclub could finally be wiped from the Worcester landscape, many will sigh when they hear that the building is set to become student accommodation.

The old club has long been an eyesore in desperate need of rejuvenation, but it's a shame that the city is losing another commercial space to housing. With the nearby Victorian railway arches set to undergo a transformation to create a new hub of creative businesses and places to eat, I was hoping the old Images would become part of that regeneration project.

But I can understand why student accommodation is the plan. The University of Worcester is growing, which is good for our city, and thus more housing is needed for those who study there. Still, something more adventurous for the old club (don't say a Burger King!) would have been nice.

Of course, police will be pleased that a new nightspot won't be opening at The Butts site – as was previously planned – and thus there won't be another potential source of crime in the city.
