A Harvester pub in Perdiswell has closed its doors after the owners sold up.

And the future of another pub and restaurant nearby appears to have been plunged into doubt.

Last month the Worcester News revealed that Mitchells & Butlers, the owners of the Harvester chain, had released a statement confirming the closure of the Droitwich Road pub, saying they had decided to sell up. The move to close came as a surprise as only three years ago the firm invested in a major refurbishment.

On Monday, the pub closed its doors to the public and Harvester signs were taken down.

The identity of the new owners remains a mystery but agents JLL, acting on their behalf, has submitted an application for a certificate of existing lawful use to Worcester City Council.

Mitchell & Butlers has released a further statement saying: “Information around the buyer is confidential so there’s nothing we can say on this.”

The application on Worcester City Council’s website appears to be a tidying-up exercise to confirm that the Perdiswell House site can continue to operate as a restaurant, as the document demonstrates the site’s history. The Certificate of Lawfulness Existing application is currently listed as pending.

Fast food chain McDonald’s has been unable to confirm or deny rumours circulating that it plans to open a restaurant on the site.

Meanwhile there have been rumours that another Droitwich Road pub The Raven is set to close.

The Worcester News understands the pub’s lease runs out next month and a buyer is being sought. The Raven was approached but a member of staff provided a no-comment response.
