AN angry dad says he "feels like my head is going to explode" after being woken up every morning by a loud machine which makes his house "shake".

Lee Parkes claims builders are waking him up at 7am every morning to work on the Taylor Wimpey housing development site on The Shire in Fernhill Heath, near Worcester.

Mr Parkes said: “The motor makes a terrible noise and the horrendous racket is waking us up every morning at 7am when they are not supposed to start until 8am, even on weekends. The house sometimes vibrates – it literally shakes.

“Normally when you go outside the only thing you can hear are the birds and rustling of trees – it has been lovely. So, to go from that to this it is not nice at all. We feel completely trapped.

“I’m so angry, they are breaking the law at the end of the day and because they are a big company, they think they are unstoppable.”

Mr Parkes, 50, said: “The first time I opened the patio with my young son, who is 10, to let the dog out we were bombarded with foul language. The workers chat between themselves, however their behaviour is outrageous.

“They have placed toilets inappropriately close to our children’s play area. There is no privacy whatsoever - we feel invaded.

“It is mentally exhausting and making me really ill. I feel like my head is going to explode. My wife and I regularly work from home and it’s so hard to concentrate. It is now affecting our mental health and I am concerned I may do something stupid if I crack.”

Here is a video of the noise caused by the Taylor Wimpey builders which Mr Parkes claims occurs at 7am.

Mr Parkes said he specifically bought the property 13 years ago because of the privacy element. When the initial building work began on The Shire a year ago the family wanted to sell up.

However, Mr Parkes claims estate agents told him it would be difficult to sell until the development is complete.

In the application proposal, it says: “Demolition, clearance or construction work and deliveries to and from the site in connection with the development hereby approved shall only take place between the hours of 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am and 1pm on a Saturday.”

A Taylor Wimpey spokesperson said: “We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by our construction operations and we would like to thank local residents for bringing this matter to our attention. We will continue to take appropriate steps at The Shire to keep any disruption to the local community to an absolute minimum.” A police spokesman said: “This is an environmental and civil matter regarding the noise and work times however we did attend as there was a verbal altercation. No arrests were made.”

Wychavon District Council said it was investigating.
