We’re might still getting frosts in the morning, but Artrix in Bromsgrove is looking ahead and has announced details of its summer season.

A spokesman said: “With a new season including music in the foyer, street food vendors selling a variety of delicious treats and a programme that’s packed full of the best in music, comedy, theatre and cinema you’ll need to look no further than Artrix for the hottest tickets this summer.

“Maintaining a growing reputation as Worcestershire’s go-to venue for great live music, Artrix presents a summer of music fit for a festival.”

The BBC Folk Award-winning Aidan O’Rourke and Kit Downes will visit Artrix on Thursday May 16 and there’s energetic world-folk music from Moishe’s Bagel on Saturday June 22.

The spokesman added: “Outstanding Ukrainian jazz-folk-electronic set up Dagadana will be dropping in to Artrix on Thursday June 27, prior to their gig at Glastonbury that weekend, and British Blues innovator and slide guitarist Michael Messer joins with Hindustani slide guitar maestro from India, Manish Pingle, and London-based tabla master, Gurdain Singh Rayatt to bring Mitra to The Studio on Friday July 19.

“As always, Artrix presents another season of the very best in tribute acts including The Songs Of Leonard Cohen on Friday May 31, the ultimate 60s party with Summer Of Love on Saturday June 8 and the return of Beach Boy’s tribute Surf’s Up on Saturday July 20.”

The spokesman added: Comedy highlights this Summer include Radio Active on Thursday May 9, as Angus Deayton, Philip Pope, Michael Fenton Stevens and Helen Atkinson Wood reunite to bring classic scripts from the award-winning BBC Radio 4 to the stage.

“Award-winning comedian and impressionist Jess Robinson returns to Artrix with more spot-on celebrity impressions, musical comedy and stunning vocal gymnastics on Friday May 17.”

Theatre highlights include musician, performer and writer Matt McGuinness with his debut show We Are What We Overcome on Saturday May 4, featuring “uplifting, anthemic tunes shedding light on mental health with self-deprecating honesty and dark humour”.

Other big names gracing the Artrix stage this summer include 80s Pop and Musical Theatre sensation Jason Donovan with a sell-out show on Wednesday May 8 and Lexicographer, Best Selling Author and Queen of Dictionary Corner Suzie Dent with The Secret Lives of Words on Tuesday July 9.

The spokesman added: “Family audiences will be charmed by the grumpy ginger cat Sourpuss on stage on Wednesday May 29, along with a hands-on puppet making workshop.

“And this June, Vienna Festival Ballet returns to Artrix with their stunning production of Giselle. With the performance beginning at 5pm on Sunday June 2, this is a wonderful first ballet experience for all the family.”
